What a Great Weekend
I just had such an amazing weekend. There was so much going on, both on and off campus. I tried to partake in as much as possible.
It all started Friday afternoon. As you may know, I serve on the CityVU committee. CityVU is a branch of the Vanderbilt Programming Board that strives to bring Nashville to the Vanderbilt Community. We held our Kick-Off Event this past Friday. It was called Ice-Cream Social. We brought the Hit and Miss Ice Cream Truck to Alumni Lawn. Hit and Miss is a local company that actually churns all of its ice cream with a John Deere Engine! The social was kind of a surprise, so as people walked through the center of campus, they were ecstatic to find free ice cream, free frisbies and great company!
On Friday night, my room mate and I decided to venture to Loveless Cafe. Loveless is a MUST visit if you are ever in Nashville. They are most famous for their biscuits, but really everything is delicious. We had a blast and ate a ton. We didn’t even have to wait in line, which is a first for us!
We also decided to eat at Loveless Cafe because we planned on going to the Full Moon Pickin’ Party, which is at a park close to the restaurant. The Full Moon Pickin’ Party is a festival that takes place on the Friday of the full moons between May and October. It features a blue grass band, but most people bring their own bluegrass instruments (admission is discounted if you do!) and pick-up bands spring up all over the park. I don’t actually have any musical talent, so I made a full-price donation to Warner Parks. Regardless, I had a great time watching and listening to all of the others.
On Saturday, I spent the day in downtown Franklin shopping and sightseeing. Franklin is a historic town about half an hour south of Nashville. Most of the stores were independently owned, so most of the products were unique. In Miami Beach, we don’t have anything like Franklin. It was a nice, refreshing day away from the city.
The best part of my weekend came on Saturday night. My friends and I were walking around campus when we ran into an alumni.
Yup, that’s John Jenkins. I am sure you’re jealous. In case you were wondering, he was so nice and hasn’t forgotten that he’s a Commodore at heart. GO DORES!
