This Week’s Funtivities
This week, I decided that every day I would take a small study break and enjoy something uniquely offered at Vanderbilt. I’m going to be honest and say that I thought it would be difficult to find fun things to do every day. Is there really a Vanderbilt sponsored activity that I could enjoy every day? There is! And, if I were a betting girl, I’d bet that there would be everyday funtivities for you too!
Monday was Rosh Hashanah, and seeing as how I’ve already blogged about my Rosh Hashanah experience, I won’t belabor that point.
On Tuesday, I observed Rosh Hashanah during the day. In the evening, I decided to go to a free screening of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. The showing was sponsored by International Lens, which is a film series which strives to promote diverse conversations among the various departments, religions, cultures and populations at Vanderbilt. After the film, which was presented by the Psychology department, we stayed for a presentation and discussion with some Psychology professors and Psychiatrists from the Vanderbilt Medical Center.
On Wednesday, I (like Julianne) indulged in free Jeni’s ice cream. Jeni’s is probably my favorite ice cream in Nashville. The company was founded in Ohio, but they have a store in East Nashville and they sell select flavors at Hot n Cold in Hillsboro Village. Anyway, Jeni’s was brought in by the Student Alumni Board, which is a student organization that works with the alumni association in order to encourage young alumni membership.I was so thankful for the ice cream. It was a perfect pick me up on an otherwise average Wednesday. Yesterday, I played in my first Intramural Flag Football game. My team is called the Dolphins because many of us are from Miami. We are in the Class C, co-ed league. Basically, we are in the least competitive division. Many of us have never played on a intramural team before, so we are all just happy to go out there and have fun. We ended up winning our first preseason game. Hopefully, our success will become the norm as the season progresses.
In short, Vanderbilt sponsors tons of activities. It’s just up to us to find them!
