Slack[lin]ing in the Sun

Every once in a while, my friends and I in WilSkills will get together and set up a slackline outside of Rand Dining Center to hang out and eat lunch while inviting people to learn how to slackline and also to attend a WilSkills lecture or trip.

The setting up process takes some teamwork to tightly connect the line to the tree…

But after that is done, you are ready for hours of good times, laughs, some falls, and amazing acts of balance! Slacklining was born from climbing community from people who essentially just needed a way to kill some time while at the base of the crag or at camp. Since then, it has developed into a self-sufficient “sport.” At one point people just walked back and forth along the lines, but now there are all sorts of flips and tricks and balance-y acts to practice and perfect. We usually just walk across and practice turning around, but it’s a great way to hang out and is a fun skill for anyone to learn!

If you’re up for a challenge, you can do some fun things like play chicken…

Or grab the sun…

If you get REALLY good, maybe you can be like this guy!
