Hiking and the School Play

This weekend, I did so many activities both on and off campus. On Saturday the weather was absolutely gorgeous, so I decided to take advantage and partake in some outdoor activities. Today was still warm, but it was overcast. I took this as a hint to get to the library and hit the books!

I woke up pretty early on Saturday morning and decided to head to the bookstore and pick up a play that I needed for class. I planned on reading the play at a table outside (we have many great locations on campus for outside studying). On my way back to my dorm, though, I ran into two of my friends who were heading out to Radnor Lake for some fresh air and a small hike. I figured that the play was short enough and we only have so many GORGEOUS days to hike. So, I hopped into the car and we were on our way.

Even though Radnor Lake is only about 6 miles from campus, it is often overlooked when my friends plan daytime activities. There are a number of trails that wind up and around the lake. It is great for families and avid hikers alike. My friends and I fall somewhere in the middle of this spectrum, so we were content walking about half of the trails.

The best part of the hike was getting to see a family a deer grazing. In the words of my dear friend, “It’s like we’re at the zoo!” Being a city girl, I don’t have too many experiences like these and I am really trying to use my time in Nashville to explore nature.

After my hike, I managed to get some studying done. I had to stay focused so that I could go to dinner and the VUT play with some of my friends. We decided to eat at Zumi Sushi, which is a cute little sushi restaurant in walking distance from campus, located in the heart of Hillsboro Village. Zumi is great because it part of the Taste of Nashville program. I’m sure that you know all about the program, but here is just another example of the marvels of Vanderbilt dining.

After dinner, we rushed over to Neely Auditorium to see VUT’s production of Dead Man’s Cell Phone. For a synopsis of the play and some background, see Cassandra’s post here. I don’t want to be redundant but I did really enjoy my first taste of Vanderbilt University theater!

My friends and I at the show.

This week, I’ll be gearing up for fall break, which starts on Wednesday night. Almost there!
