Getaway for a Day
This time of the semester is stressful. This coming week I have two papers, a test, a quiz and a whole host of miscellaneous tasks for group projects and extra curriculars. That’s why I was so glad this past weekend to get off campus for a few days for a BCM retreat at Deer Run Retreat center.
The BCM normally does a freshmen retreat, but this year we decided to start a new tradition and do a retreat for the entire BCM–we went up Friday night and came back on Saturday night. This was my first time visiting Deer Run Retreat Center, and let me just say it was beautiful! Deer Run is a little less than an hour outside of campus and filled with beautiful green space, a lake, forested areas, and more. We stayed in cedar cabins which just added to the ambience.
Our schedule for the weekend was pretty chill–we had three local pastors come talk throughout the two days and a local worship pastor lead worship, along with a campfire and s’mores on Friday night and lots of free time to hang out on Saturday. I was even able to get some homework done–reading is so much easier when you’re doing it in a grassy field by a lake on a sunny 70-degree fall day.
Mostly, this weekend just gave me a chance get off campus and to slow down, take a minute, and breathe before the oncoming rush of this week. It’s only Tuesday, but I’m still feeling refreshed and ready to tackle everything that’s going to come my way!
P.S. This weekend’s retreat also gave me the chance to spend some quality time with fellow bloggers Ann and Samantha, who were there too!
