MCAT Success
I know that I have been blogging a lot about the MCAT and other boring pre-med things. I am sure you have all been anxiously awaiting to hear about my results, and I am happy to report that I got the score I wanted! As you may imagine, I was shocked when I received my score on Tuesday afternoon, but I thought about it a bit, and I realized how I set myself up for success. For those aspiring pre-med students, I definitely recommend checking out the AAMC website here. This website had everything from FAQs to MCAT registration to the medical school equivalent to the Common Application. I learned about this website from the HPAO office at Vanderbilt. Speaking of the Health Professions Advisory Office, I highly recommend getting to know the office and using all of its resources. They are knowledgeable and well-connected, so take advantage!
After studying the AAMC website and meeting with the HPAO, I realized that I should finish my pre-classes in two years, and then study for the MCAT while all of the material was still fresh. This may not be the best strategy for everyone, but it worked for me.
I studied everyday from May 6 to July 6. I studied on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, and even on my sister’s birthday. I think that the rigor of Vanderbilt’s pre-med curriculum taught me how to stay focused, while prioritizing and compartmentalizing. I also credit Vanderbilt for keeping me motivated. At the end of the day, I want to be a good reflection of Vanderbilt University.
Now, as I prepare for the start of my Junior year, I return to Nashville as a full-time Communication Studies student and Commodores sports enthusiast! It will be different, but I can’t wait!!
