Let the Countdown Begin
I finished my summer classes about a week ago, it is now August, and the countdown to returning to Vanderbilt has begun! I’m so excited to be back that I am tagged along with my mom on a trip to Nashville this past weekend, even though I am moving in a couple of days for VUcept orientation!
My weekend in Nashville was great. However, as soon as I got home, l needed to “get down to business” to prepare everything for returning to school. For example:
1. Voter Registration: This year’s election will be the first election that I am able to participate in! Right now, I am very clueless when it comes to politics. Lucky for me, I am taking a political science class called US Elections. It is only offered during the election year, and you learn about the current election of course! In addition the course focuses on previous elections. This kid will be an informed citizen and voter by the time November rolls around!
2. Get Clothes Hemmed: To get you back into the swing of academia, here’s an equation for you…
Short girl + jeans/pants = DISASTER
Due to my lack of sewing ability, I need to go get some jeans and these awesome tracksuit pants hemmed. I got the track suit pants with a jacket for playing in the Spirit of Gold Marching Band in the Liberty Bowl this past New Year’s Eve. Here’s to making another bowl game this football season (and maybe that I grow a few inches so I can wear pants as soon as I buy them)!
3. Decorations: Okay, this is not something that I HAVE to do, but I want to. I’m living in a Mayfield this year, which is basically a house. My roommates and I want to decorate the walls with crazy and silly doodads and doohickeys. Therefore, I am on a mission to find the most bizarre decorations in the next week. My friend Becca is bringing her super nerdy math clock, I can’t wait!
And, as I prepare for moving, I am looking forward to returning to Vanderbilt for multiple reasons. Here are a few:
1. Exploring!: During my first few weeks at Vanderbilt, I enjoyed getting lost on campus and finding little nooks and crannies where I could study, read, or just relax. I also liked running in the residential areas around campus and seeing where I would end up. I can’t wait to go back and see what places I will find this year!
2. Food, Food, FOOD: If you ask me, Vanderbilt is winning in the food department. The Rand Dining center is being renovated, Chuy’s has been added to the Taste of Nashville, and Moe’s (my favorite) is still on the card. And let’s be honest, I’m having omelet withdrawals.
3. Extracurricular Activities: I can’t wait to return to the activities I was involved in freshman year (such as Alternate Spring Break and the Spirit of Gold marching band), as well as new activities. I’m excited to get to experience VUcept again, this time as a student VUceptor. I want to try many new things this year, so I will be visiting the Student Organization Fair and seeing what I can find. The best thing about the Org Fair: so much free stuff!
As you can tell, I am itching with excitement to move back to campus. I move in THIS SUNDAY. See you soon, fellow Commodores!
