Good Eats Part 2

Posted by on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 in Food, Nashville.

We all know I like to eat, and since I’ve already written about my favorite places on campus, today I’m going to write about my favorite restaurants off-campus. Most of these are within walking distance of campus and are great places to stop by with the fam (like the night before Move-In Day!).

American:

Good old Fido
  • Fido– I don’t think there’s a single bad item on their menu, although I haven’t tried too much of it because I’m obsessed with the smoked turkey and brie sandwich with tomato soup (the fact that I have that memorized should tell you something). Fido also has good breakfast and coffee options, free wi-fi for studying, and has been known for a few Taylor Swift sightings.
  • Café Coco– Another cool place with great food and a fun environment. They have live music pretty often and are open 24/7. Apparently they also deliver but I always seem to forget that during finals.

Mexican:

  • SATCO– Short for San Antonio Taco Company, this restaurant has my favorite Mexican food in the city. It seems really authentic (not like I have much to compare it to) and the food is ready really quickly. Located on 21st Street, SATCO is great for a quick meal or to refill on queso before heading back to class.
  • Taco Mamacita– A little more fancy than SATCO, Taco Mamacita is a good restaurant to go to for a nice sit-down meal. I’ve only been there once with my friend from Belmont and we both enjoyed it, although their menu was different from what we expected because they have lots of different taco combinations and I’m normally a quesadilla fan (although I should have just paid attention to the name).

Sushi:

Zumi - One time they made extra sushi and gave it to us for free!
  • Zumi– Zumi is on the card (meaning students can pay for it with Meal Money or Commodore Cash from their Commodore cards) and have half-off sushi specials. My friends and I love to go and order tons 5 or 6 sushi rolls and all share.
  • Samurai– I’ve never actually been to Samurai but some of my friends say it’s their favorite sushi place in Nashville. I think it’s a bit more pricey, though.

Breakfast:

  • Pancake Pantry– World-famous and so delicious! I’ve had the blueberry pancakes and chocolate chip pancakes but I’ve heard the sweet potato pancakes are pretty awesome. Be warned though, it’s usually an hour to two hour wait on the weekends so I’ve only ever been there at 7 in the morning before class starts, but that just adds to the fun.
  • Pfunky Griddle– You definitely need a car to get to this place, but it’s totally worth the drive. I took my mom here during Mom’s Weekend for AOII and it’s awesome because they give you batter and your choice of topping (like blueberries or my favorite, M&M’s) and you get to make the pancakes right in front of you, since each table had a griddle built in. I think it’s a similar process if you order eggs but either way, you have to experience the Pfunky Griddle while in Nashville.
