My Published Research Paper

Posted by on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in Academics, College Life, General Information, Student Life, Teachers.

As I mentioned in a few of my previous posts, I worked on a semester-long research paper and project for one of my classes. The class was about democracy and public opinion in Latin America, which was completely unfamiliar to me prior to it. My final published paper was a collaborative effort with two of my classmates.I learned an incredible amount through the process of writing and publishing this paper. First, I learned about group work. I got extremely lucky in that my group members were outstanding, hard-working and diligent. The hardest part about our group dynamic was coordinating three packed schedules. But, other than that, this group project was truly a pleasure.

I also learned a lot about the research and editing processes. Our complete paper was revised by ‘professionals’ at least four times. This, however does not include each section of the paper, which was reviewed twice by our professor and TA after my group members and I spent countless hours writing and working.

Our paper is titled “Riches Don’t Explain Campaign Participation but Community Involvement Does.” It was published as a part of the AmericasBarometer Series which is directed by Vanderbilt’s Latin American Public Opinion Project (LAPOP). Professor Zechmeister, who taught the class, is the associate director of LAPOP and one of the editors of the Series.

Check out our paper here! And if you still have time, check out this media release!

I would like to thank Professor Zechmeister, Margarita Corral, and the entire LAPOP staff for allowing us this amazing opportunity.
