Preparing for the MCAT
I am currently just over one week into my MCAT preparations. As promised, below is a more detailed explanation of my study plan. I am pre-med and I want to be a doctor. This spring, I finished the pre-med requirements and realized that this summer would be the ideal time to take the MCAT, being that the MCAT requires prior knowledge in the four core sciences. I figured that I should just get it over with. Besides, the longer I wait, the more effort I will have to put into re-learning the material.
I will be taking the MCAT on July 6th at 2 PM (Keep your fingers crossed for me. I need all luck and well wishes that I can get!). I began studying on May 7th. That gives me just about two months to prepare for the exam.
I know that you’re probably thinking, “How could you ever waste two months of glorious summer studying for a test?” I will start by saying that many students spend all three or four months of their summer vacations studying, but I know myself, and I will be nearly burnt out after two months. I work better under slight pressure, but if I study a little bit (or a lot) every day, I will surely know the material cold by Test Day.
I enrolled in a Kaplan Prep Course, which I actually complete online. This allows me to study when I want and how I want. I can skip over the familiar material and spend more time on the things that give me trouble.
So far, everything has been going smoothly. I have been sticking to my schedule and working really hard every day. I was actually impressed by how much of material was familiar. Don’t get me wrong, I still have a long way to go in my MCAT mastery, but Vanderbilt has done an amazing job in preparing me and giving me much of the basic knowledge that will be crucial on Test Day.
7 more weeks!
