The View of Some Prospective Students- A Guest Blog
This weekend, my sister, Brittany and her friend Sophia visited. They are currently juniors in high school. Here is what they had to say about Vanderbilt:
As juniors in high school, tis the season for college visits. After visits to the University of Florida and Florida State, Vanderbilt was our next stop. This weekend, we were determined to experience Vanderbilt from a student’s perspective.
We arrived on Friday afternoon and were immediately blown away by the lush landscape and beautiful brick buildings. We knew we weren’t in Miami anymore. We went up to the dorms, got situated for the weekend, and met a few of Erica’s hall mates. Everyone was incredibly sweet and welcoming, which contributed to the lively vibe of the campus. Lunch at Grins was fresh, and healthy. The well-known Apple PBG was absolutely incredible, with its mix of salty and sweet.
To burn off our lunch, a tour of the school seemed like the perfect thing to do. The Commons was beautiful and unique. Did you know that they make fresh brick oven pizza? It was exciting to see where I would most likely be living as a freshman in Vandy. That evening we went to Hillsborough Village for dinner at Boscos, which was a great end to our first day at Vanderbilt.
The next morning, we were unsure of what was to come. We decided to go on an adventure through east Nashville in search of the perfect lunch. Of all the restaurants in the trendy area, we ended up stumbling upon Nashville’s Biscuits. This old fashioned restaurant was perfectly satisfying with its warm biscuit filled with sausage, egg, and cheese. YUM! The rest of our afternoon was spent at Centennial Park, and soaked up the Nashville sun. Erica is on the committee of City VU, which is a student run organization that brings Nashville to Vanderbilt. One of their signature events is private party at the well-known Pancake Pantry for students and faculty, and luckily, we got to be part of it! After Pancake Pantry, we agreed that we could never look at pancakes the same way… So good.
Sunday morning was a typical college Sunday filled with laundry, relaxing and a little bit of shopping. We stopped by the bookstore and stocked up on our Vandy attire. We finished off our trip with a delicious dinner at Loveless Café.
Now, it’s back to the real world. AP exams and finals are rapidly approaching, but we found some motivation at Vanderbilt. We are definitely looking forward to college and loved our weekend at Vanderbilt!
