Reliving my childhood
On Saturday, Vanderbilt held its first Quidditch event. I relived my childhood days by participating. It was Wednesday night and I was in the library telling myself I was studying but in actuality browsing Facebook for countless hours. And then, I got a text message. It was from a friend. It asked me to be on her Quidditch team. Naturally, I agreed to it and looked forward to the prospect of playing my first Quidditch match. Needless to say, my studying for that night was futile as I read up on the Official Rules.
After bombing my test on Thursday and then carbo-loading Friday night, Game Day was finally here. Our team was created last minute and consisted of people who lived in our dorm: Crawford. We even had uniforms because we were legit. (I wish I could show you but a friend of mine has been slacking in sending me the team picture)
So, the game rules are slightly complicated but if you ever read the Harry Potter series (or even had a childhood) you know the basic rules of Quidditch.
But long story short, everyone runs around with a broom between their legs and you have to get the Quaffle (volleyball) into the three hoops to score. If you get hit with a Bludger (dodgeball), you have “fallen off” your broom and must return to your goal post. One person on each team, the Seeker, must chase the Snitch (person wearing all yellow). The game is not finished until the Snitch is caught.
Unfortunately we lost our first game but we still looked great in our pink pinnies. The score was somewhere around 70-40. We were close…
Luckily, our second game was much better. Our team played against the team of fellow blogger: Chloe Stegeman. She is a very aggressive person. Watch out. Within the first minute of the game, she poked me in the eye with her broomstick. That one hurt, but, I rubbed some dirt on it and played on. We eventually won the game and that was the end of my Quidditch season.
Overall, I had a lot of fun and I would say the event was successful. Hopefully they will be doing it again next year or maybe even set up intramural Quidditch. That would be pretty awesome. Well, that is all for now. Have a great day!
