End of the Year Activities
The school year is rapidly coming to a close. In an effort to go out with a bang, Vanderbilt has stepped up its programming. In addition to Rites of Spring, there have been tons of great events for students to enjoy before we head out separate ways this summer.Last week, my dorm, Branscomb Quad, had its end of the year celebration. It was a BBQ, complete with music and a bounce house. As if I needed an excuse to momentarily return to my childhood, I spent about half an hour bouncing (and burning calories!). My friends and I had a blast, and we loved the opportunity to hang out with the entire quad.
In case you haven’t heard, Kissam Quad will be completely demolished this summer to make room for college halls. In order to properly bid farewell to this iconic Vanderbilt housing option, Chancellor Zeppos sponsored a farewell party on Monday afternoon. It was catered by Vanderbilt dining, with some imported cake pops and Nashville’s own Las Paletas. The cookout was another tribute to living and learning in the Vanderbilt commmunity. It also marks a historic transition for Vanderbily, as the college halls are expected to be state-of-the-art and completely unique!
The Kissam cookout coincidentally fell on the last day of classes. Today was reading day and our final exams begin tomorrow (YIKES). To celebrate reading day, Vanderbilt Programming Board hosted a Stress Fest. The event was catered by Loveless Cafe and Dunkin Doughnuts and there was even a cupcake decorating station. In addition to the free food (and the real reason that I went to the event), the movie, Bridesmaids, was showing on a big screen, there was an arcade room with all sorts of video games, and free massages!
If only Vanderbilt would stop planning these awesome events, then maybe, just maybe, I would start studying for my exams.
