East Nashville Restaurant Crawl
Yesterday evening, I participated in the East Nashville Restaurant Crawl. It was organized by CityVU and open to all undergraduate and graduate students in the Vanderbilt Community. I got to try three new Nashville restaurants, while hanging out with my peers. One of my favorite parts of CityVU trips is that they are school-sponsored, so they are structured and organized, but since we are all ‘mature, responsible’ adults, we are given the freedom to mingle and basically do our own thing. It was basically a laid-back field trip. Not to worry though, Vanderbilt field trips are better than the average high school class trip. Vanderbilt never cheaps out on anything, from the air-conditioned buses to the elaborate experiences themselves.
The first course of our Restaurant Crawl was served at Rumors East. We were served a cheese course, potato gnocchi, mussels and shrimp and grits. Everything was delicious. I had actually never tried mussels before, as I am not usually a seafood eater. I also really enjoyed the shrimp and grits, which, as a city girl, are not usually part of my staples.
All of the appetizers were served family style, which really gave a chance to meet our table mates. My friend, Sumner, and I sat with two other pairs. Two senior girls and two junior boys. Sumner really enjoyed talking to the girls, one of whom is starting NBC’s page program after graduation. Sumner wants to work in production eventually, so speaking to them was incredibly helpful.
Even though we were stuffed, the Restaurant Crawl continued. We were off to Nuvo Burrito, for our main course. Most people were so stuffed that they took their burritos to go. Not me! I somehow managed to fit it all in. The chips and homemade salsa and guacomole were top-notch.
The East Nashville Restaurant Crawl was the highlight of my month and the perfect ending to one of the last weekends of the semester!
