Commodore Cabs
When my friends and family come to visit, there’s always that awkward conversation about I don’t have a car…so how are we going to get around? How am I going to show them Nashville and all around Vanderbilt?Well, you could walk. That would be healthy, I guess. Or, you could use the Commodore Cabs.
One of the most convenient things available to students on Vanderbilt’s campus is the fact that we can pay for cabs on the card. This is a fairly new program, but one that has been highly successful in just two years since it was started. This is one of the major initiatives that Vanderbilt Student Government (VSG) has completed recently. It is the result of a partnership between VSG, the Commodore Card office and TaxiUSA, which owns three major cab companies in Nashville (Allied, Diamond, and Nashville cabs).
Many students use these cabs to get groceries, travel downtown, go to the mall or movie theater in Green Hills, or do other errands around Vanderbilt’s campus. All you have to do is give the cab driver your card at the end of the ride and they will swipe it like a credit card. Once you get the receipt, you sign and leave a tip (also on the card), and that’s it!
Since this is such a successful program, there is an ample amount of cabs around campus. However, if you’re ever in need of a cab, you can call or use the smart-phone app. If I had to guess, I’d say I use the Commodore Cab program at least three times a week and almost every weekend!
