LUNCH WITH COACH FRANKLIN!!
Today started out as just an average Thursday here on campus. I woke up and caught up on some homework, because I don’t have class until 1 on Thursdays. At 12:15, I met my room mate at Commons for lunch. We were in for quite the surprise.Just as we were finishing up, my room mate went back into the dining hall for dessert. She came back empty handed, but with great news. “They ran out of cookie sandwiches, but I found something better. James Franklin is here with a recruit,” she said. Just the thought of a Coach Franklin sighting was enough for me. Little did I know that there wouldn’t be enough room for him at the table with the rest of the football team.
My room mate and I were eating alone. The Commons dining center is full of long tables to promote family-style dining, so naturally, there were empty seats next to us. James Franklin approached our table and asked if he could join us. It was probably one of the most magical moments in my time at Vanderbilt, maybe even in my top ten life moments.
In case you’re curious, Coach Franklin ate the food from the Commons dining hall (because it’s so good). Every Thursday, the Asian Station, the Wok, has Commodore Tso’s chicken. It’s my personal favorite and apparently, it’s Coach Franklin’s as well because we both got it (twins!). We got to speak to the father of the recruit and hopefully, we convinced him that Vanderbilt is the best school in the country. (It is, in case you didn’t know). Coach Franklin was a great sport. He even posed for a picture! Only at Vanderbilt can you casually eat lunch with the head football coach.
