Weekend Getaway
I know that it’s already Wednesday, which makes it closer to next weekend than last, but I just took my biology and organic chemistry exams today (see Eileen’s post) and finally have time to blog. This weekend, in an effort to maximize productivity, my friend and I escaped to Huntsville, Alabama to visit her aunt and uncle. It probably seems silly to leave such an academic environment full of resources and study buddies for the weekend before huge exams. At first, I wasn’t set on the idea of trading in the dim, cold library for the comfort of my own king bed, home-cooked meals and a study space full of windows. My friend, Ali, who also happens to be from Miami, and was also swamped with THREE science exams this week (poor thing!), convinced me to accompany her to Huntsville.
Huntsville is a straight 90-minute drive on I-65 South from Nashville. It was an extremely easy drive, even for a few oblivious city girls. Once we arrived, Ali’s uncle and the family dog were waiting for us with open arms and lots of food! Ali’s uncle was so welcoming and kind. His wife, Ali’s aunt, was actually away for the weekend, so he was SO happy to have some company.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Vanderbilt, but sometimes, I just need a break. There is always something going on here and I felt like my study breaks wouldn’t actually be breaks.
Our study breaks in Huntsville were lovely. We went on a run in the Monte Sano State Park and we ate dinner in downtown Huntsville. It was so relaxing and I came back feeling refreshed. Hopefully I will have the exam grades to show for it!
