Viva Las Vandy!
I realized the other day that I neglected to post about Viva Las Vandy!–an event that transformed the Commons Center into Las Vegas last Friday night. (Actually, it was the Friday before that, but I can’t bring myself to get rid of that link.)
After a lovely evening of dinner at Chili’s and watching the first half of the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Victoria, Rachel-Chloe and I ventured to the Commons Center to meet our friends Curtis and Shilpa for the annual themed event–last year, when we were freshmen, the theme was a passport ball, with food and decorations from all over the world. This year–Vegas. The dress code was supposed to be a little bit dressier, but being the rebellious sophomores we are, we just wore what we wore to class that day. (…Actually the truth is that last year hardly anyone dressed up, so we didn’t expect that people would actually follow the suggested dress code…)
Anyways, once we got there, we used a meal plan to gain entry into the festivities–there were multiple rooms filled with different things to do and to eat–a room of video games and card games, a room for dancing and a buffet, an area to put your name on a Las Vegas sign, and even a wedding chapel photo booth! We tasted all of the food from the buffet (my personal favorite was the grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich…I’m not really sure how that’s Vegas-y, but it was still tasty.) and got our picture taken in the wedding chapel, and after beautifying our names on the Vegas signs, we headed back to Kissam.
All in all, it was a fun night, and I’m really glad that the Commons does the theme night every year and changes it up! It’s something that everyone can enjoy–first years and upperclassmen alike. Vanderbilt Dining is wonderful for having programs like this and making the meal plan at Vanderbilt a little bit more fun.
