Dore for A Day
Today, I missed the first half of the Vandy vs. University of Tennessee basketball game. Shame on me, I know, but no fear, I was there for the second half and stayed to sing the alma mater with my team after their dominating win. (In case you missed it, the final score was 65-47 and the Commodores looked awesome!)There are very few things that can keep me away from a home sporting event. Studying and movie going generally don’t even make the cut. Today, though, I had a meeting for Dore for a Day, which happens to be my favorite organization on campus (besides Inside Dores, of course).
Dore for a Day is a half-day visit for prospective students. Each prospective is paired with a host so that the prospective can truly experience Vanderbilt. Together, the prospective and the host do regular student activities. This often includes eating at one of our fine food galleries, attending a class or two, and maybe even taking a personalized tour of campus.
I have been hosting students through the Dore for a Day program since fall of my freshman year and I absolutely love it! I never participated in the program as a prospective student, but I think that if I had, I would not have been as nervous about starting here. One-on-one interactions with real students can help make your college search process much easier. It is the best way to get a true feel for the school and helps answer the essential question: “Can I see myself here?”
The best part about Dore for a Day is receiving emails from past prospectives, expressing sincere gratitude and letting you know that they chose Vanderbilt. I love seeing past prospectives around campus. Some of them have even decided to pay it forward and volunteer as hosts!
If you are reading this, chances are that you are a prospective student (or you are a member of my kind and loving family). If you fall under the former and you are planning a visit, be sure to sign up for D4D here!
