Rand’s Holiday Feast
Instead of the usual Quiznos for dinner, last night I feasted on lamb, oysters, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. No, I’m not an amazing cook all of sudden, but rather Rand hosted its annual Holiday Celebration from 5-8pm.
The theme this year was “Holiday in New York” and it did not disappoint. Around 5 o’clock, my Mayfield walked from Highland Quad to Rand because we were too excited, and hungry, to wait any longer. The line outside Rand was longer than I’d ever seen it, but the food set up inside looked better than I’d ever seen. We went to the back of the line, near the art gallery in Sarratt, while our friend Jason, who’s a trombone major in Blair, joined the small band that was playing carols.
Not only did we have some awesome carols to listen to while we waited, but we also got to snack on chesnuts and soft pretzels, as members of the dining staff passed them out every few minutes. When we finally entered Rand, the place had seriously been transformed. There were snowflakes and lights strung everywhere, and holiday music playing even louder than the band out in the hallway.
There were multiple buffets of food, ranging from the traditional holiday food I mentioned above, to pizza and sandwiches and soups. It was hard to find a place to sit but we didn’t care because the food was so delicious. We were also pretty eager to journey to the dessert room, yes I said dessert room because it was a room devoted entirely to desserts (a.k.a. Heaven). After enjoying a cannoli, baklava, and some eggnog, I was so full I could barely move.
We finally walked back to the Mayfield and even played Just Dance to work off the feast we had just consumed. Just another reason why I love the holidays.
