Vanderbilt Wins
I am finally back in Vandyland after an amazing weekend in Gainesville. My roommate and I flew into Tampa and spent the night at her house, before heading to the University of Florida to watch our Commodores take on the Florida Gators. Even though our football team couldn’t come home with a win, I came back to school with an entirely refreshing perspective on Vanderbilt. At the game, Glori and I sat in the first row, right behind the Vanderbilt bench and right next to the Vanderbilt cheerleaders. We had a blast leading the Vanderbilt cheers and supporting our team. One of the girls on the cheerleading team is in a few of my classes, so during her breaks, she came over and spoke to us. Since returning to Vandy, I have had a few other members of the squad approach me and compliment me on my team spirit.
Equally as awesome as knowing the cheerleaders is knowing the team. Our student-athletes are real people. They live with us and go to class with us. Glori and I were cheering for the players on a first name basis. After the game, we got text messages from the players thanking us for our support.
Vanderbilt may not have left the Swamp with the win, but after my trip to Gainesville, I realized just how proud and honored I am to be a Vanderbilt Commodore.
It’s Good to Be GOLD!
