Home Again for Some R and R
I woke up this morning in my bed at home in Miami Beach. Thanksgiving is great for Vanderbilt students. Whereas most students have just Thursday and Friday off, we have the entire week. I will be home for nine days, so when I get back to Vanderbilt I will be fully refreshed for finals. Before I could come home for Thanksgiving break, I had to submit a final paper, another major paper and I had an Organic Chemistry test. Needless to say, I studied a lot and did little else. The good news is that I can enjoy my break knowing that I deserve it.
My schedule this semester has been pretty overwhelming. I am taking five classes and two labs. With seventeen credits and over twenty hours spent in class each week, I sometimes feel consumed by books.
In order to stay motivated and sharp, I have to indulge in things outside of my studies. This semester I started running. I am training for a marathon, so my daily runs have been my major stress outlets. I also take advantage of many campus activities, especially those sponsored by Vanderbilt Programming Board. Finally, as you could probably guess, I love sports, so a good Commodore sporting event always lightens my mood. (Check out the Men’s Basketball team this weekend in the Ticket City Classic).
Keeping a level head at such a rigorous school is sometimes easier said than done. With that being said, I definitely think I am getting much better at balancing school and fun. My friend group has solidified and we are finding our social fit. We have figured out where we like to spend our leisure time and what we like to do.
In my time at home this week, I am set to meet up with some of me best friends at school, who happen to be from Miami. We didn’t know each other before college, but we met at the Send-Off and have been great friends ever since.
I can’t wait to get back to school and catch up with all of my friends. But for now, I am happy to enjoy my family and some much needed rest.
