The Dating Doctor
America’s real-life Hitch, David Coleman, visited Vanderbilt for the second time this calendar year. He spoke about relationships, romance and life to about 200 students tonight.I was one of the lucky students in attendance. To be quite honest, I really had no interest in getting relationship advice. I like to consider myself pretty independent and I don’t really think I need some random guy to tell me how to live a better life. I went to the show because I wanted to see if Coleman was portrayed accurately in the movie, Hitch. (For the record, he looks more like Kevin James than he does Will Smith). I was pleasantly surprised by Coleman’s advice, however.
Coleman was kind, but honest. He did not yell at us or mock our lifestyle choices. He simply presented the facts about relationships and romance. For example, if your ‘boyfriend’ absolutely refuses to put your relationship on Facebook, and fails to give you a reason, he is probably cheating on you. He also shared some good tactics for initiating contact with a person we may want to pursue. This included the 3-eye-contact rule and the Moosh brain phenomenon.
Coleman’s talk may not have been life-changing, but I definitely gained a whole new perspective on relationships. You never know when you may need this stuff.
