Homecoming Block Party

Posted by on Saturday, October 22, 2011 in College Life, Food, Music.

This week is Homecoming for Vanderbilt, so there have been a bunch of fun activities going on, like the Block Party at Kensington Place last night!

We got there around 7, and they had already set up the bull-riding machine and another inflatable game like that. We had to wait a while until the free food got there, but watching people get flung off the bull was ample entertainment. Jim N’ Nick’s Barb-B-Q catered and I think even Jet’s Pizza got there later.

After the delicious free meal, Karmin performed! Karmin is a band with one guy and one girl who got famous from their covers on Youtube. In particular, they covered the rap song “Look at Me Now” and it currently has over 40 million views, probably because Amy raps it perfectly. They performed that song flawlessly last night, along with many others. They were really fun to watch and seemed genuinely excited to perform for us, even inviting people on stage to dance with them to their new single.

Afterwards, there was a mad rush for free shirts from VPB (which I’m actually wearing right now) and then the road cleared out pretty quickly. The Block Party last night was a fun, casual event that left me with a catchy song in my head and tons of free stuff.
