Alumni Reunion
Last weekend was homecoming here at Vandy. I love homecoming weekend because it is a chance to see old friends who have graduated, and it is so awesome to see the wide range of alumni who come back to reflect on the time they spent at Vanderbilt.
My favorite homecoming tradition is when we have our Alumni Reunion for Concert Choir. During this time some of the alumni come back to share their stories with the current members of choir. The previous two directors each share their experiences and how choir was different when they were directors, and they also tell the history of Concert Choir and how it came to be what it is today. After that we have a “roll call” where all of the alumni stand up based on the year of their graduation and they share information about themselves such as how many years they were in choir, if they were an officer, and what they have done since graduation. Each alumni also shares one of their favorite choir memories. These stories are my favorite part of Alumni Reunion. The stories are always funny, and it is so great to see just how many memories have been created from people’s experiences in choir. At the end we take a picture of all the current members with the alumni (see below). I particularly enjoyed Alumni Reunion this year because I knew some of the alumni this year, whereas last year I did not know any of them. It was nice to see some of my old friends again, even if it was only for a brief time.
Alumni Reunion was a great time spent catching up with old friends and reminiscing with the alumni about their days in Concert Choir. Listening to all the stories from the alumni makes me even more excited for when I graduate since I will be able to come back and share my stories about what choir means to me.
