Habitat for Humanity
Yesterday, I decided that it was time to do some good in my community. I signed up for a Habitat for Humanity build in Miami. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that serves to provide safe and affordable homes to low-income families. Volunteers work with Habitat staff and future Habitat homeowners to build these homes in new communities.I originally got involved with Habitat for Humanity at Vanderbilt. I did my first build on the 9/11 Day of Service. I had such a great time and I continued to stay involved in Vanderbilt’s Habitat chapter. I participated in two more builds and did a Meals on Wheels program, where we packed bagged meals and drove them around low-income areas of Nashville. In addition to builds and Meals on Wheels, the club volunteers at Dismas House, which is a community providing transitional housing for former prisoners, and plans 4 spring break trips.
Through Vanderbilt, I was able to get involved in an organization and bring my involvement home with me. I am planning on participating in another build next week and I am going to bring my mom with me!
