My Friend the Pre-Med
Did you know that Vanderbilt’s Class of 2014 represents 48 of the 50 states, in addition to representing various countries around the world? This past week, one of my best friends from Vanderbilt took a family vacation to Miami Beach, so I got to have a mini reunion! My friend is Alex is from Owensboro, Kentucky, which is about 90 minutes away from Nashville. I had never heard of Owensboro before I got to Vanderbilt. Actually, to be honest, I had never heard of most of the places my friends were from. I know, it’s slightly embarrassing, but really, there are so many places where Vanderbilt students live.
Alex and I went to lunch and then enjoyed the beautiful beach. We had so much catching up to do! Since we left Vanderbilt in May, Alex decided that he wants to be a doctor. Currently, Alex is enrolled in the School of Engineering and is studying Chemical Engineering. Although Alex loves Chemistry, (I don’t think that I have ever met somebody better at it), it wasn’t quite fulfilling enough for him. He is going to switch to Biomedical Engineering when we return to school in August and complete the medical school pre-requisites.
Another friend has figured everything out. If only I could make final decisions and file the official paperwork. At Vanderbilt, it is really easy to try out many things until you stumble upon your true passion. I wish Alex the best of luck and I’m so excited that I will finally have some classes with him!
