Vanderbilt Stays Alive in the CWS

Posted by on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 in Athletics, Student Life, Summer.

Tonight, the Commodores beat the Tarheels by a score of 5 to 1. In doing so, the Commodores eliminated UNC and advanced to take on the Florida Gators once again.Pitcher Taylor Hill led the way for the Commdores. He gave up four hits and one earned run in seven innings of work. On offense, both Curt Casali and Connor Harrell hit home runs, which accounted for four of Vanderbilt’s five runs. At the College World Series this year, only four home runs have been hit. Three of these have been courtesy of Vanderbilt.

Vanderbilt plays the Florida Gators this Friday at 2 PM eastern time. For the Commodores, it’s win or go home. Because of the double-elimination format of the College World Series, Vanderbilt needs to beat Florida twice in order to advance to the best-of-three finals against the winner of the second bracket. But, because Florida has already beaten Vanderbilt once, they only have to win once more to advance to the finals.

CONQUER AND PREVAIL!
