Go ‘Dores!

Posted by on Saturday, June 18, 2011 in Alumni, Athletics, Summer.

In case you haven’t heard, the Vanderbilt Men’s Baseball team is in the College World Series. They just beat North Carolina in their first game and Connor Harrell hit the first home run ever in the new College World Series Stadium. This is an extremely exciting time for Vanderbilt athletics. Not only did the team have an SEC record 12 draft picks this year, but this is also the first time that a Vanderbilt men’s team has been in the finals of a ‘major’ sports competition. I am so proud to be a Commodore and I was delighted to see that many of my classmates were showing school spirit on Facebook and Twitter.

Today, I watched the game at home with my dad, who proudly supports the Commodores as if they were his own team. If my dad wasn’t around, however, I could have gone to watch the game at a restaurant about thirty minutes away with the Miami Chapter of the Vanderbilt Alumni Association. Vanderbilt has an incredibly strong alumni association nationwide, and since I made the decision to attend Vanderbilt last spring, they have been nothing less than amazing. It is so nice to know that even after I graduate, Vanderbilt will always be easily accessible. The alumni make it easier to bridge this gap.

I hope that this post doesn’t jinx Vanderbilt’s run, but if you haven’t been following, it’s not too late! They play again on Monday at 7.
