Move Out
Today, I am moving out of Stambaugh House. I never thought this day would come. Moving out of the Commons is bittersweet. How has an entire year already come and gone? It seems like just yesterday that I moved in. Unfortunately, the move-out process is a little more arduous than the move-in process. My future roommate, Glori, and I both finished our exams relatively early. Though exams run through next Friday, I finished this past Friday and Glori finished yesterday. Since I am from Miami Beach, the trip for my parents would have been long and expensive, so they asked me to move out with Glori. Because we had each other, neither of us needed parents (or so they thought).
To be frank, packing your life into boxes was quite the challenge. It was overwhelming and took a few hours. I had to separate my life into ‘Absolute Summer Essentials,’ which could not exceed 100 lbs and two carry-ons, ‘Vandy Essentials,’ for storage, and ‘Donations and Trash.’
After I sorted everything, the process actually wasn’t too terrible (at least until my mom opens my ‘Absolute Summer Essential’ bag and finds four weeks worth of dirty laundry…sorry). I rented an off-campus storage unit to share with two friends, and I was able to clean out my closet and donate things that I no longer need.
I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but I moved out without the help of my parents! I guess I’m growing up or something.
