Pancakes at the Pantry! (Courtesy of CityVU)
I just left Pancake Pantry. I had a 4:15 reservation. You are probably wondering how this is possible when the restaurant closes at 4. Not only this, but even when the restaurant is open, they do not take reservations. People line up around the block to eat at the Pantry.Well, CityVU, which is a subset of Vanderbilt Programming Board (VPB), planned a private party at Pancake Pantry for 30 lucky students and their guests. My friend Allie won, and after a little bit of bribing and a lot of luck, she chose me to go with her.
CityVU’s mission is to bring the city of Nashville to the Vanderbilt community. Their event at Pancake Pantry served to bring faculty and students together over Nashville’s best breakfast, (even if it was more an early dinner).
The restaurant was decorated like a luau, complete with umbrellas in every glass and seashells on the tables. We sat down and ordered off a custom menu- but no worries, there were ample choices.
I had blueberry pancakes and hash browns. Allie had chocolate chip pancakes with a side of sausage links. Our other friend, Sarah, had the Caribbean short stack, which was three buttermilk pancakes topped with fresh banana slices, coconut shavings and a cherry. We all devoured our pancakes and mingled with Provost McCarty and some of the other faculty in attendance.
The afternoon ended with a raffle. There were 10 ‘buckets’ filled with different prizes, including a complete beach pack, a movie pack, and the grand prize: an Amazon kindle and Amazon gift certificate. Unfortunately, neither Allie nor I won the raffle. But, hey, we did win free AWESOME pancakes and a fun afternoon in Nashville.
