Mosaic Weekend
For the last four days, I’ve had a high school senior sleeping on my floor. She was here for Mosaic, a multicultural recruitment weekend for accepted students. I signed up to host, which pretty much involved taking Melissa to dinner one night and giving her a place to sleep, even though they probably were not the most comfortable nights of her life. Melissa was cool about it though, and I think everyone had a really fun weekend!
Thursday night, when the students arrived, a group of us ate at the Pub. The Pub is above Rand and has delicious hamburgers, fries, etc. I sometime forget about the Pub, so whenever I eat there it feels like a special occasion. Afterwards, there was a cool event put on by Vandy Spoken Word, which combines poetry and hip hop. Actually, every night there were fun performances to attend, like Live VU or the NPHC Step Show. My favorite activity though was definitely Spring Fling, which was an indoor carnival in the Student Life Center, with inflatables, Rock Band, and air hockey, to name a few. Being the five-year-old at heart that I am, I loved volunteering at the fair. I even raced the RA from the floor below me on the obstacle course and beat him three times, no big deal. The weekend was a great opportunity for admitted students to try out, and hopefully fall in love with, Vanderbilt, as I have many friends who attended Mosaic last year and decided right afterwards to come here.
