Dinner with the Football Team

Ok, so maybe I didn’t actually have dinner with the entire football team. I did, however, eat with four first-year players and Coach Franklin at Dean Wcislo’s house.Coach Franklin wanted to learn about the Commons and continue to network with first-year students, so Dean Wcislo and his wife, Jane, had Coach Franklin and thirty first-year students, including the four players and myself.

We got to dinner at 6 and ate buffet-style short ribs, barbecue chicken, mac and cheese, vegetables, and corn bread. It was delicious! Just when I thought the meal couldn’t get any better, warm bread pudding was served. I thought I was in heaven.

Coach Franklin and the players all spoke about the transitions of the football program and the athletic department as a whole. They all seemed really enthusiastic about the new direction of the program, but all stressed the importance of campus-wide support.

I actually went to the Dean’s house alone because I was the only one of my friends that got a spot at dinner. I walked in the door and immediately knew almost everyone in the room. This is why Vanderbilt is so awesome: not only did I get a free meal with campus celebrities, but I also got to mingle some kids in my class, and branch out for a night.
