Nashvegas

Posted by on Sunday, February 13, 2011 in College Life, Food, Freshman Life, Nashville.

Downtown Nashville is famous for it’s neon lights, live music, crazy bachelorettes and quirky regulars. Vanderbilt is located 1.3 miles uptown (aka a four minute cab ride) from this legendary strip of southern goodness. This past Saturday night, my friends and I decided that it was time for a taste of good ol’ Nashvegas. We dined at Jack’s BBQ, which is right on Broadway. I devoured my beef brisket, baked beans, mac and cheese, and corn bread while enjoying the live music blaring from the bar next door. After dinner, we walked up and down the street, singing along to the country songs that I have come to love since arriving in Nashville. If it weren’t for our tight college-student budgets, we would have taken a ride in a horse drawn carriage or played a game of laser tag. (Maybe on parents weekend?)

So this is a random side note, but, did you know that you can pay for the cab fare with your Commodore Card? Thanks to VSG, Vanderbilt students can take public taxi cabs that accept the Commodore Card. These Commodore Cabs enable us to get out and see the town, without having to worry about stopping at the ATM on our way out!

Essentially, Downtown Nashville is always alive, and every once and a while it is nice to get off campus and embrace the local culture.
