A Joyride Around Nashville..Keeps a Long-Distance Relationship Strong

As a last hurrah of the weekend, despite the climbing gas prices, my girlfriend (who flew in for a visit this weekend!) and I took a ride around town to see some sights and to take advantage of the beautiful weather. Thanks to my sophomore G-lot parking permit, I only had to cross the street to get from my dorm to my car! Love Terrace Place Garage.

..Anyway, we scooted on downtown, passing Union Station, the Bridgestone Arena and the Nashville Riverfront on our way to LP Field, where the Tennessee Titans play football. We stopped between the field and the riverfront to soak up some sun and observe the town from a distance. To get a different angle of the city, we made our way to the “Love Circle,” which gets its name from the fact that it is an elevated circle on a hill that couples famously visit to cuddle and see the Nashville skyline. On our way up the big hill in the car, we even passed Country Star, John Rich’s house.

Observing the Nashville skyline from the two locations got a little sentimental. Viewing the city from the outside evoked quite the rush of emotions, as we both began to realize how at the end of the day I would be staying here and she would be flying back to North Carolina. While this was definitely a somber and tear-jerking realization, it was interesting to hear that she felt more and more comfortable in our relationship after seeing all of Vanderbilt’s campus and the sights that she did, as it allowed her to orient herself to where I live and how I spend most of my time. Sightseeing today took away the mystery of our distance. We have been doing the long-distance thing since we started college in the Fall of 2009, and we know we want to be together afterwards. If you have a significant other that you are considering going long-distances without, I would definitely suggest sightseeing around town! Do it even before you move in if you can!

At this point I am planning to stay in Nashville after I graduate. The more my girlfriend visits, the more she wants to live here after school too! :)
