Adventures Abroad
In light of my recent trip abroad to Honduras, I wanted to share some of the other abroad opportunities available. Here at Vanderbilt, we have a very popular study abroad program. Students can study abroad during the summer, fall semester, spring semester, or during the month of May (our Maymesters). Because of leadership positions on campus, I will not be studying abroad. Since I can’t offer any personal insight, I asked some of my friends about their amazing experiences this past fall semester.

“For me, I’ve loved having the opportunity to be experience life at another university. I’ve been fully immersed into the St. Andrews culture just like a regular student who is here for four years. I live in a dorm and go to classes with other St. Andrews students, which is what makes this program different than the other abroad programs. I’ll never have the chance again to be a student at a university around the world. While I wasn’t originally planning on studying abroad for a semester, I knew I would regret my decision if I didn’t go. It’s been an incredible semester here and I’ve loved every minute of it.”

“Going abroad will be THE best semester of your college career, I guarantee it. Never again in your life will you have this same opportunity to travel the world and live among native speakers of a country like the semester that you choose.”

“I have absolutely loved studying abroad. I’ve lived with a host family in Santiago, Chile for the past five months, and I still can’t believe that I’ll be home in less than two weeks. In my five months here, I’ve grown and learned more about myself than ever before in my life, because I’ve been constantly living way outside of my comfort zone. I’ve had the chance to see and do some incredible things. I’ve been sandboarding in the driest desert in the world, hiking in the Andes, and I’m about to head down to backpack through Patagonia. This world is just so cool!! I would absolutely encourage everyone to consider a semester abroad, especially those who are studying a language. It’s such a unique opportunity to take a five-month break from the chaos of “real life” and experience something totally different.”
