Panhellenic Preview

Posted by on Monday, November 15, 2010 in Freshman Life, Greek Life.

Last Saturday was a busy day for many girls on the Vanderbilt campus, as it was Panhellenic Preview Day! Any freshman considering rushing in the spring got to visit each sorority house and talk to the sisters for fifteen minutes.

There are currently 11 Panhellenic sororities accepting new recruits, with 9 participating in formal recruitment. While it was a little overwhelming at first, I’m really glad I participated, because it took away any doubts I had about rushing. There were nice girls at each house, and they all seemed so excited by the prospect of new sisters that I couldn’t help but feel very welcome. Even the conversations were less awkward than I expected, as I ended up discussing fun topics like Glee, Dollywood, and high school diving (and all the resulting belly flops) with girls at different houses. Now I have a general idea about which sorority might best fit my personality and I have a much better idea of what to expect when formal recruitment rolls around in January, and honestly, I can’t wait ‘til then!
