Family Weekend
This weekend, Vanderbilt celebrated official ‘Family Weekend,’ so my parents and grandparents made the trip and spent the weekend with me.
I anxiously awaited their arrival. Let’s just say that class Friday morning was a blur. We met after class and immediately left campus to explore Nashville. I forgot the feeling of immediate comfort that you get from spending time with family. Over the past two months, I have been constantly meeting new people and adjusting to my new life here, so it was refreshing to be with my family, who just knows me. I also forgot that there is a world outside of Vanderbilt and I was eager to visit it.
We went to the mall, Costco and Target to restock on the necessities (ie: a Snuggie, winter boots, a few new outfits, and some conditioner) but we also spent some time on campus partaking the the University sponsored events. My favorite was Fall for the Arts at the Commons, a festival celebrating the creativity of the students here. Peabody Lawn was set up with booths exhibiting the work of students and booths at which families could dabble in the arts themselves, carving pumpkins or making picture frames. Then, a delicious southern meal was around a camp fire, which doubled as a make-your-own smores cooker. I had a great time with my family Friday night, and for the rest of the weekend. On Sunday, when we said good-bye however, I was not sad to see them go. I will miss them but this is my home for now, and I was just about ready to get back to my routine.
