Weekend at Vanderbilt 9/3
What a weekend. So much was going on and around campus this weekend. In Melodores news, we just inducted new members into the group after an impressive showing of talent. Congratulations to them all!
In football news, while we didn’t pull off a W, there was a LOT to be said about the game. The first football game of the season is always a blast. The traditions are rich – the first year and transfer students have the opportunity to dash across the field before the game starts, many choose to dress up for games…other even paint up! I really feel a sense of community walking around campus, especially on game days, as the Greek community on campus normally holds tailgating activities including: grilling out, dancing and socializing. Greek row was HOPPIN’ on Saturday before the game.

I also had the pleasure of spending the weekend with my long-distance girlfriend. She visited from East Carolina University in North Carolina (who also won their football game with an epic Hail Mary play this weekend) and accompanied me on all of the weekend activities. While I had a great time at everything this weekend, I wanted to mention a bit about Café Coco a couple blocks over from campus. First of all, it is on the Taste of Nashville list of restaurants so we were conveniently able to eat “on the card.” The food was exceptional, the atmosphere was very laid back, but best of all – the entire place was also a music venue built in 1930! Aspiring to be a performing musician, finding venues to play in starting from scratch can be a challenge. Café Coco, among many other venues in Nashville, has dedicated Open Mic and Karaoke nights for entertainment and exposure for “up and coming” artists. When visiting Nashville, you have to visit Café Coco, or at least similar restaurant.
