Summer in the Nashville City
I spent about half my summer in Nashville – and it may have been one of the best decisions ever. Right after finals I went home for my younger brother’s high school graduation and then did some summer traveling. By the end of June, I repacked my things and headed back down south.
As Lindsay mentioned in her earlier post, we lived off campus together with four other girls. So much fun. We all stayed busy but in very different ways. I took a 2nd session summer class, Public Speaking (a course from Vanderbilt’s Department of Communication Studies) and worked as a student worker in the Office of Undergraduate of Admissions. Lindsay interned for MTM Music Management on top of working a part time job and babysitting. The other girls in our house were taking other summer classes, interning for an insurance company, working on a campaign for a candidate for governor or doing research for Vanderbilt.
Because I stayed busy during the week, I made sure to make the most of my weekends. This past weekend, I had two friends from home visit me, and decided to give them an “ultimate” Nashville experience. An outline of our weekend:
Friday: Pankcake Pantry for brunch, a Vanderbilt campus tour, shopping in some of the local boutiques, dinner at Cafe Coco (a popular restaurant on the Card), a country concert at the Exit/In, and then downtown to Broadway to hear more live music.
Saturday: Pontooning on Percy Priest (See Lindsay’s post for more info), and dinner at Bricktops before hanging out with friends.
Sunday: Monell’s brunch (incredible southern food, served family style), toured the Country Music Hall of Fame and Studio B, before exploring downtown Nashville around the Cumberland River, Music Row and Centennial Park. We also checked out the Grand Ole Opry.
These were some of my favorite restaurants and popular, must-see, places for a first visit to the city! The weekend, as well as the entire summer, has shown me how much I love Nashville. I’m always so busy on campus during the year, the slower paced summer really gave me a chance to enjoy the city and relax.
