Looking Ahead
I just got my tickets to the Vanderbilt Rites of Spring festival today. If you haven’t already heard about it, we host a yearly spring festival (In mid-April) featuring the biggest artists in the world. To name a few, we have in this year’s lineup: Drake, Ben Harper and the Relentless 7, Phoenix, Passion Pit, Cold War Kids, Melanie Fiona, Doug E. Fresh and many others. I have never been before, but I have heard nothing but huge things about it. I did, however, go to the homecoming performance in the fall where Vandy brought in Pitbull, Asher Roth and OAR. That was a lot of fun, but I can only imagine what this two day outdoor concert is going to be like. It’s on Alumni Lawn, an historic portion of Vanderbilt’s campus, so it’s bound to be a gorgeous setting.Looking at my calendar, when we get back from break we will have six weeks of class remaining. Six weeks. There’s a lot I can say about this six weeks left – While I’m sure I will have a great time working and hanging with family and friends, I’m definitely going to miss Nashville this summer. I cannot think of another place I would rather be for college other than Nashville. The culture here is so profound. The music is widespread. It’s so nice being in a big city where there are so many things going on and so much energy, but at the same time the traffic and pollution seems non-existent. Nashville has to be the cleanest city I have ever seen. Also, for those that are concerned about balance between quiet time and party time, there are places to go for both. I was definitely concerned about being in a place like New York for college because it seems like there is never quiet. I need my own time to regroup and feel like I have my own space. I also didn’t want to go to school in small town with nothing to do. I feel like Nashville balances quiet time and party time very well, from the serene nature of Centennial Park to the hopping streets of downtown at night. There truly is something for everyone here. That said, those who like music will really be able to appreciate the passion that this town has.
