The Soundtrack to “A Typical Vandy Week”
I don’t know about y’all (yeah yeah I’m your resident southern belle blogger…) but I sometimes wish that there was music playing in the background of my life everyday. Don’t lie… you know you’ve thought about it too.
Well I decided to thoroughly search through my iTunes library to find the perfect soundtrack to my typical week at Vanderbilt. Here is what I came up with:
Monday: Lean on Me – Bill Withers. I spend Monday nights at my sorority chapter meetings and then we have dinner afterwards. No matter what kind of day I have had, I know when I walk into that house there are 150 girls that share an unconditional love for each other and for me. They are always there for me, through the good and the bad.
Tuesday: The Climb – Miley Cyrus. After a long day of interesting and challenging classes, I am so motivated to get my work done and tackle another week of school. There are going to be tough tests, long hours spent on projects, and many late nights, but in the end all the knowledge I will have gained is so worth all of the work.
Wednesday: Carolina – Eric Church. I am sitting in the library studying and listening to music that reminds me of home sweet home and my North Carolina roots. It makes me miss my family, friends, and hometown. However, I know that home is always going to be there waiting for me and that my 4-years of adventures at Vanderbilt are going to grow into wonderful memories; and that in a few years I will look back on them with the same nostalgia as I do home.
Thursday: Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy – The Tams. This day is spent wrapping up the week and dreaming about the great weekend ahead. It’s usually on Thursdays when I realize that I am the greatest place on earth right now – I am 20 years old on an awesome college campus. When else am I going to have so much freedom to make my own decision and to take advantage of all of the awesome things Nashville and Vanderbilt have to offer?
Friday: Smile – Uncle Kracker. Friday can usually go two ways: 1. Date night. 2. Girls’ night. Either way, this song just makes me happy. On Fridays the week is over and you have the whole weekend ahead of you to have fun; whether that is a concert downtown, catching a cute chick flick, going to a Predators hockey game, or just dancing with your friends at a party; I know I will always have a good time.
Saturday: Sweet Caroline – Neil Diamond. This song is blaring from every frat house, dorm window, and truck bed within a 5-mile radius of Vanderbilt’s campus on any fall football Saturday. Everyone knows the words and everyone sings along (as it an unofficial Vandy anthem), no matter how bad their voice is – truth is, no one cares, and it still sounds awesome!
Sunday: Twenty Tomorrow – Ben Rector. I always spend this day recuperating from the super fun weekend, and planning for the awesome week ahead. It’s a day of rest and relaxation with a strong dose of organization, many weekend stories, and a few hours of library time thrown in :).
So there you have it folks, the soundtrack to my Vanderbilt life! I hope you start putting music to your daily lives; every day is so much more entertaining that way… maybe even sing a little tune while your walking!
