The "Melodores"
Monday evening – 11:52pm (aka the only time I have had to write this today)
So I got into the “Melodores” acapella group last week. They needed a couple of guys to fill spots quickly as this coming weekend we are competing at the University of Georgia for the quarterfinals of the ICCA acapella competition. They call this week hell week because we are drilling choreography and music every day for hours…in addition to classes. Busy week to say the least, but it is making us all quickly bond because we are going through the stress together. As you can imagine, getting ready to perform can be very stressful: learning original musical arrangements, picking up choreography, buying costumes and figuring out all of the logistics of travel etc.
Vanderbilt has been very supportive and eased some of the stress and financial burden on us. It’s in times like these that Vanderbilt really shows its true colors in supporting its students. As we are an officially recognized student organization on campus, Vanderbilt has done quite a bit to make it possible for us to get there and back. It feels great going into a competition knowing that more than just your group is excited about it – the school is proud of us too. As we press forward in this week, our MeloMentality is geared toward picking up a “W” so we can advance in the competition. We want our hard work to pay off…by having fun during the competition.
