Medical Research and Shadowing
This summer, in addition to taking Physics, I will be conducting research and shadowing a physician through the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami.I will be conducting research at the Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education. The center specializes in producing and testing teaching technologies for use in medical school, first response training, and other forms of medical education. The Gordon Center developed the Harvey doll, which is a high-tech Annie doll used for teaching the cardiovascular system. The Harvey doll is currently used at over 300 medical schools, (including Vanderbilt!), and I get to see its production and development.
Through the Gordon Center, I have been connected with two doctors. Both primarily serve the University through medical education, but they also work in the public internal medicine clinic and the emergency room once a week. After a morning of research, I will be shadowing these doctors and learning about patient care in the public hospital system. I can’t wait to get started!
