Full Circle. The End of My First Year.
Things have truly come full circle. I am currently cruising at an altitude of 35,000 ft as I draft my last post of the semester. For those of you who don’t know, before I started blogging for Inside ‘Dores, I actually kept a personal. I started this blog back in August, on my way to Nashville, from an altitude of 35,000.Now a seasoned blogger, with a year of collegiate wisdom under my belt, here is a small anecdote.
The day I moved in, my mom bought me a glass jar and filled it with candy. She told me leave the door of my room open and to keep the jar visible. She claimed that this candy would help me make friends. In fact, my mom thought that giving away free candy was my only shot. Turns out, she was wrong. Long after the candy was gone, my friends stuck around. Vanderbilt is an extremely social campus. Not only do I study with my friends, but we also relax and enjoy Nashville together. Just last night, as a last hoorah, we drove to Steak ‘n’ Shake for a midnight snack. My friends here are amazing. I am so lucky to have them. Waking up in the morning without them is going to be depressing and strange.
My first year at Vanderbilt has been absolutely incredible. I cannot even begin to imagine going to school anywhere else. Vanderbilt does so much to ensure that its first-year students have a seamless transition form high school to college. Everybody that I have met here is genuinely kind and excited to be part of the Vanderbilt community. Speaking of communities, there is no living and learning community that can compete with the Commons. From yoga with my floor to dinner at Dean Wcislo’s, the Commons has given me countless experiences that have truly shaped my college experience.
Overall, I would say my first year of college was a success.
