PreVU Days: Good Morning Class of 2014
Jun. 15, 2009—It's with a mixture of excitement and amazement (didn't we just finish an admissions cycle) that I will welcome a new group of prospective students this morning at our first PreVU Days. These summer days are fun for us in that we get to meet new friends from all across the country, and collectively start turning our thoughts to the fall.
Waitlist Calling Starts
May. 7, 2009—We will start making offers of admission from our waitlist and we will begin doing so starting this evening and tomorrow. A review of our deposits reveals that we are exactly where we had hoped to be, that is, to be able to admit from the waitlist. I do not know how many offers we...
Senior Week: The Vanderbilt I know
May. 4, 2009—The week is senior week here at Vanderbilt. Commencement activities start winding up on Wednesday, which by the way you can follow on Twitter. There's a story unfolding at this year's graduation that reminds me why I love this time of year, and why Vandy is a special place to me.
Waitlist Check-in Emails Update
Apr. 27, 2009—Today we will be sending out an email to students who have accepted a spot on our waitlist. The email, which is included below, will ask you to visit a short online form to update us on your continued interest in Vanderbilt, specifically, if you still wish to remain on our waitlist.

A Tuesday Intellectual on a Friday Afternoon
Apr. 21, 2009—At Vanderbilt, we feel comfortable putting our classroom experience up against any University, but we're biased). What I have come to understand in my three years here though is that this highly intellectual community maintains such a high level of livability for many Vanderbilt students. To me, Vanderbilt offers Tuesday morning academics in a setting that feels like a Friday afternoon. I reject that if a student wants an elite academic experience that they have to put up with a community that is cut-throat and staid.
I've Been Admitted – Now What?: April Edition
Mar. 31, 2009—The letters have gone and been received by most across the country. Usually at this point, the readership of our blog becomes a little segmented depending on which envelope you received from us. The informational needs of each of the different groups certainly keep us busy enough to fill the time vacated by less reading. My hope this week is to provide some "what now" information to our admitted students (today) and our waitlisted students (later this week). For students who were denied and who wish to appeal our decision, see the comments section from the last post (3/26) for details about that process.
Mailing Day 2009 is Here!
Mar. 26, 2009—The day is finally here. The letters are stuffed, sorted, packed, and checked. This morning, we will put the finishing touches on all of the decision letters and finally get them out the door later today.
How Admissions Committee at Vanderbilt Works
Mar. 19, 2009—For the past two weeks I, along with my fellow Associate Director and Director of Admissions at Vanderbilt, have reviewed the decisions of hundreds of individual students all across the country. Think of a meeting that lasts 80+ hours long. Yes, it is that fascinating.
Things That Are Chock Full of Awesome: March Edition
Mar. 4, 2009—Things that are chock full of awesome: 1. Vanderbilt students are scattered to the winds for Spring Break, including our ASB Groups out there helping hundreds if not thousands of people, go 'Dores. Selfishly, I celebrate increased parking spots.
Admissions deadlines for Admissions Officers
Feb. 16, 2009—You think you're the only one that gets stressed meeting admissions deadlines? Our officers are reading their eyeballs out right now, pouring over applications trying to meet our own internal priority deadlines. In our office, we set goals as to when all applications should be first read, second read, and decisioned (more on this term and a minute), etc. One such priority deadline is coming up this week.
MOSAIC 2009 Invites Nearly Out the Door
Feb. 13, 2009—Later today our office will be mailing invitations for MOSAIC 2009. This program is geared to highlite the vast diversity of Vanderbilt (One of the nation's most diverse and inclusive leading University according to a recent survey from the Journal of Blacks and Higher Education) for newly admitted students of color for the incoming class of 2009.
