Vanderbilt University Business Minor: What you need to know
The day that many of you have been waiting for has finally arrived. After years of prospective student questions on the topic, we’re finally able to say that we do indeed have (insert drum roll here)…a business minor! This new minor, launching in fall 2017, will give students an education in the field of business that they have been craving, while also upholding the values of a strong liberal arts education.
Once the initial excitement of this news wears off, you will probably be itching for some more information, right? Have no fear, I am here today to lay out the need-to-know facts about this new and exciting addition to our university.

Within what school at Vanderbilt is the business minor held?
The business minor is a unique partnership between all four of Vanderbilt’s undergraduate schools and the Owen Graduate School of Management. As a trans-institutional minor, students will have the option to take courses within any of the four schools, including the College of Arts and Science, Peabody College of Education and Human Development, School of Engineering, and the Blair School of Music, in order to complete this minor.
What courses make-up of the business minor?
In order to complete the business minor, students will take 5 half-semester fundamentals courses as well as 3 elective courses. The core courses include Organizational Behavior, Essentials of Financial Reporting, Principles of Marketing, Principles of Finance, and Managing Operations. The electives, which can help students connect their business minor to their chosen major, while also allowing them to delve into specific interests within the field of business, can be chosen from a catalog of 70+ options.
Is there a way I can gear my business minor toward more specific areas within the field of business?
Absolutely! Vanderbilt will offer students 7 optional pathways, listed below, within the business minor to address the diverse interests of our students.
