2015 Waitlist Update

Posted by on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 in General Information, Waitlist.

We have now started making offers of admission to students on our waitlist for the Class of 2019.  As we explained in our recent Waitlist FAQ post, applicants on the waitlist who are offered admission will receive an email from the Director of Admissions, and will have a limited amount of time to accept the offer and pay the matriculation fee. We will continue with offers until the Class of 2019 is full. We can’t predict exactly when this will happen, although when the class is officially closed we will notify by email all students who remain on the waitlist.

In the meantime, if you receive an email inquiry from our office asking if you’d like to remain on the waitlist, be sure to respond so that we can gauge your continuing interest in attending Vanderbilt.

Thank you for your patience with the waitlist process – we recognize that this can be an anxious time for you and your family. The fact that you were offered a spot on the waitlist means that we think you would make a valuable contribution to the Vanderbilt community.

We will continue to post updates as the waitlist process continues.  Questions are welcome in the comments section.

Should we have already received emails, or will they be coming throughout the day?

Thanks for your question. If you claimed your spot on the waitlist, you should have received a Wait List update email checking to see if you want to remain on active on the waitlist. Offers of admission are ongoing to students admitted from the waitlist.

    Thank you for the help!

I’ve received emails in the past month, and have remained active. But I haven’t received any emails today.

When will the admissions office start making offers from the transfer waitlist?

  • Jay Watson

    May 6th, 2015

Offers of admission to waitlist candidates will occur on a rolling basis throughout the spring and
summer as we receive responses from transfer students offered admission. We hope to admit the
full transfer class by mid-July. Thanks for the question, John.

It is said that the yield rate of Chinese students this year is amazingly high. Does that mean Vandy will not be able to admit any Chinese student off the waitlist?

Have any offers been made to Peabody applicants yet?

  • Jay Watson

Offers are being made as space is available in all schools. Thanks for your question.

Did you start making offers for Engineering School?

  • Jay Watson

    May 14th, 2015

Thanks for this question. Yes, offers are being made as space is available in all schools.

I have not received any email today. Do I still have a chance

Waitlist update emails are sent only periodically. If you didn’t receive one on this day, it has no bearing on your likelihood of being admitted. Thanks for your continued interest in Vanderbilt.

What does it mean if you claimed your spot on the waitlist but didn’t receive any update emails or offers of admission?

  • Jay Watson

    May 14th, 2015

Check to make sure these emails have not gone into your spam folder – if you claimed your spot on the waitlist, you should receive waitlist update emails. If not, contact your admissions officer directly.

Do you know when the next batch of admissions is released? Is it random or by set dates?

  • Jay Watson

    May 14th, 2015

We do not have set dates. Admissions from the waitlist will proceed as space is available until the class has been finalized.

If my child has significant financial need, does that lower his chances of being admitted off the waitlist? Also, does Vanderbilt offer any scholarship assistance to National Merit finalists?

  • Jay Watson

    May 14th, 2015

Thanks for this question. While we do reserve the right to be need-aware when admitting students from the waitlist, we will not necessarily take this into consideration. And, like all admitted students, we will meet 100% of a families demonstrated financial need when we admit students from the waitlist. Students admitted from the waitlist aren’t eligible for merit aid from Vanderbilt.

Thanks for this question and for your continued interest in Vanderbilt. At this point, there’s not more that you can do. Just continue to watch your email and respond to any requests for updates. Thanks.

Can you share what percentage of the waitlist spots have been filled at this point in time?

  • Jay Watson

    May 14th, 2015

No, unfortunately I cannot. We continue to fill the class, and we will post news on the blog when the class is finalized.

    May 14th, 2015

I received only 2 requests to update to stay on the waiting list. The last one was in April. How can I be sure I am still on the waiting list?

  • Jay Watson

    May 14th, 2015

Hi Sarah, thanks for your question. You can log into your MyAppVU portal to check your status. It should indicate that you have claimed your spot on the waitlist. If you’ve responded to our emails, then you are still active on the list. Thanks for your patience with the process!

Thanks! Has there been more than one group invited off the waiting list so far?

  • Lauren

    May 15th, 2015

Do students on the transfer waitlist have to claim their spot on the waitlist as well? Additionally, could one find that they were admitted from the transfer waitlist at any point throughout the work week or only on Mondays?

  • Jay Watson

    May 21st, 2015

Hi Lauren, thanks for your question. No, students on the transfer waitlist do not have to claim their spot. They are automatically added to the waitlist. Admission from the waitlist is periodic and not on any specific day of the week. Thanks!

I wasn’t able to respond to every email to claim my spot but I have done it according to the newest email, do I still have a chance?

  • Jay Watson

    June 4th, 2015

Thanks for the question. Yes, Annie, we have not yet closed the waitlist and if you responded to an email we know that you are still interested in Vanderbilt.

Are all spots in the Class of 2019 filled? It’s been quite some time since us waitlistees have heard anything…

  • Jay Watson

    June 4th, 2015

Thank you for your question, Savannah. We are continuing to fill the class of 2019, and the waitlist is not yet closed. Thanks for bearing with us as we finalize the enrollment – we know it can be difficult to wait!

Do transfer students receive update waitlist emails?
    Thank you!

  • Jay Watson

    June 19th, 2015

Thanks for your question, Christina. No, we do not ask transfer applicants to update their waitlist status. Transfer applicants who are offered a spot on the waitlist are automatically added to the waitlist and are not asked to claim their spot. Thanks!
