MyAppVU: Vanderbilt’s New Application Management Portal
One of our main objectives with the Admissions Blog is to give you an inside look at the Vanderbilt undergraduate admissions process. We post about how admissions counselors read applications, what happens during the admissions committee process, and what comes next after your admissions decision. Our aim is to pull back the curtain not only so that you understand the process, but also so that you can confidently take ownership over it. After all, this is your application to college.
This year at Vanderbilt we have a new feature that will give you even more control over your admissions process. So, in the spirit of drawing back the curtain, I’d like to introduce you to MyAppVU, our new online application management tool. With MyAppVU, you’ll be able to check your application status, monitor which application materials we have received, and view your admission decision (when that auspicious moment finally arrives).
Here’s how the system works: your first step is to complete the Common Application online (check out Carolyn’s post on the Common App for more details). After you’ve successfully submitted the Common Application, you will receive an email from our office inviting you to create your MyAppVU account. [Update: This email will be sent to you two business days after you submit your application through the Common Application.] You’ll have the option of signing in with your Facebook or Gmail account credentials, or you can start from scratch with a unique Vanderbilt-only username and password.
Once your account has been created, you will have access to the tools that MyAppVU has to offer. What are those tools? Log in to MyAppVU to:
- Check what parts of your application have been received
- Check what parts of your need-based financial aid application have been received
- Check what required standardized test scores have been received
- Update your contact information (address, phone, email, etc.)
- View your admissions decision (after published response date for your decision plan)
You can think of MyAppVU as your personal online application manager. Log in whenever you feel like checking on your status. And while our options for online application management have increased, we’re still here to help you offline as well.
