Early Decision I Deadline this Saturday, Nov. 1

Posted by on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 in Application Process, Early Decision, General Information.

The deadline to submit your application for consideration under our Early Decision I decision plan is this Saturday, November 1, 2014.  Submit your completed application and all additional materials by November 1, in order to be considered under this plan and learn your admission decision by December 15, 2014. Remember, applying through Early Decision is a binding commitment to enroll at Vanderbilt if you are admitted. It is a signal to us that Vanderbilt is your first-choice school.

My advice:  finish your application early and hit submit by Thursday, so that your Friday is free for tricks and treats of the candy variety.  You don’t want any scares where your application is concerned . . .

If you’re interested in applying early, but won’t have your materials together by Saturday, then you can apply through our Early Decision II plan. The deadline to apply through EDII is January 1, 2015, and students who apply through EDII will learn their admission decision by February 15, 2015.

Are only the highest SAT sections considered regardless of test date?

  • Jay Watson

    October 29th, 2014

Hi Emma, thanks for your question. Yes, we consider the highest SAT section across all of your testing dates. You can read more about our score choice policy at http://admissions.vanderbilt.edu/vandybloggers/2009/09/where-we-stand-on-sat-score-choice/.

Let us know if you have any other questions, and again, thank you for your interest in Vanderbilt.

Hi! I applied for an alumni interview but I am unsure where I will hear from the alumni I requested. Do they email me directly or will it come up on myappvu? Thank you!

Hi Sam, thanks for your application to Vanderbilt. After requesting an alumni interview through the system, you should hear directly from the alumni interviewer via email within three days. You can learn more about the alumni interview process at http://admissions.vanderbilt.edu/alumni/interview-program.php. Thanks!

Thank you for getting back to me. Thus far, I have requested interviews with four CoRPs members but heard from none of them within three business days. I am wondering whether setting up my myappvu account through Facebook was an issue? I remember having to give the email I used for my Common Application when setting up myappvu; would I hear from the alum on that email or the email I use for my Facebook account? Sorry about all of the questions and thank you again for being so responsive!

I’m sorry you haven’t heard back from the alumni with whom you have requested interviews, Sam. At this point, if you have an outstanding request, you can cancel that one and send out another request to an alumnus/a from the list. The deadline for interview requests is today, so I want to reassure you about the process. If you cannot schedule an interview by the deadline, please know that your application will not suffer at all without one of these interviews. We will see your requests and know you were interested in the process. They are completely optional and more informational in nature, rather than a significant part of the evaluation process. Last year only about 20% of our applicants completed an interview. We are keeping track of alumni who do not respond to requests, so please do let us know why you cancel the requests, using the drop-down menu in the cancellation process.

I hope your request is successful, but please do not worry if it does not work out! Thank you.

Hi! I’m going to apply to Vanderbilt with Early Decision Plan. I want to ask: which documents are supposed to be sent through normal mail? Or can I send everything through Common App and my teacher’s account? If my SAT score arrived late (I just took the october test and i’ve just sent it) then will it be considered? I know I asked a lot but I’m every eager to join vandy :)

  • Jay Watson

    October 31st, 2014

Hi Minh, thanks for your interest in Vanderbilt. Most application materials should be submitted online through the Common Application or the Universal College Application. If you must mail materials, use this address:

    Office of Undergraduate Admissions
    2305 West End Avenue
    Nashville, Tennessee 37203

As for your test scores, if they arrive in time to be considered during our review process we will consider them (even if it’s past the deadline).

Hello! I submitted my Early Decision application this morning, and I would like to schedule an alumni interview. I have not yet received an email for a myappVU account. How long do they usually take to arrive? Thanks in advance.

  • Jay Watson

    October 31st, 2014

Hi Fredric, the email response to your submitted application usually comes within two business days. However, you do not need to wait for the email in order to set up your MyAppVU account. Just go to https://webapp.mis.vanderbilt.edu/adam/pub/applicant-entry and follow the directions for creating an account. Once your account has been created, you can request an alumni interview. Thanks for your interest in Vanderbilt.

I’ve finished my application and want to apply early, however one of my teachers has not yet submitted their recommendation. Is it possible to go ahead and submit all of my materials now and just submit that one letter after the deadline?

  • Jay Watson

    November 3rd, 2014

Hi Stephanie, Thanks for your question. If your teacher recommendation arrives in time to be considered during our evaluation process, then we will include it in the review. I suggest contacting your specific admissions counselor to let him/her know that the teacher recommendation is on its way. You can find the contact info for you admissions counselor at http://admissions.vanderbilt.edu/your-counselor/

Hello! I have submitted my application to vanderbilt under early decision l. The only thing that is not checked off yet is the early decision agreement. My mom and I both signed it on common app and my counselor just signed it yesterday. Is there anything else I need to do? Thank you!

  • Jay Watson

    November 3rd, 2014

Hi Molly, thanks for your question. If you believe you have completed all of the requirements for early decision within the Common Application, and your MyAppVU profile still shows no check mark by the early decision agreement, I suggest you contact your admissions officer directly. He or she can make sure that you are all set for EDI. To find your admissions officer, use this site: http://admissions.vanderbilt.edu/your-counselor/

    Hi–
Will Vanderbilt be mailing admission decisions in addition to posting them on the MyAppVU portal?
    Thanks!

  • Jay Watson

    December 4th, 2014

Thanks for your question. We will notify all applicants by email that their admission decision is available. We will also mail letters to admitted students.

Will accepted ED applicants be receiving the mailed letter around December 15th? Or will all acceptance letters be mailed after the RD admission decisions have been made?
    Thanks!

  • Jay Watson

    December 4th, 2014

Applicants will get email notification by December 15, and letters to admitted students will follow afterwards.
